Margaret Dabbs OBE is the founder of a self-named wellness brand based in the UK, that offers specialist treatments and products.

Speaking to The U.S. Sun, she shared her expert advice for age-defying hands.

“No one wants old-looking hands,” she said.

“It is a shock when one day there is no hiding the fact that your hands are showing the tell-tale signs of aging, but that doesn’t mean we have to put up with it.

“You can always invest in clever ways to keep the skin of the back of your hands looking more youthful with a more even skin tone, looking plumper, firmer, and younger for longer.”

SPOTLESS SKIN

Dabbs revealed natural aging and sun exposure are the most common causes of age spots.

She said two crucial ingredients should be routinely used to achieve an even skin tone.

“Age spots can be more prevalent in fairer skin, which is finer or thinner,” she said.

“They can appear to be more apparent in the warmer summer months when the sunshine causes the skin tone to darken.

“Skincare featuring vitamin C or niacinamide can help to fade age spots and fight hyperpigmentation.

“This will leave you with smoother, more balanced skin and it can also be helped by soy isoflavones which target and treat the pigmentation.”

FACTOR IN PROTECTION

Dabbs said many people forget to apply SPF to the back of their hands when putting sunscreen on their bodies.

She said this is especially important if you’re going to be spending time in direct sunlight.

“A good tip is to use a wet cloth to wipe the sunscreen from the palm of your hands whilst leaving the sunscreen in place on the back of the hands,” she said.

“Regardless of whether It’s a drab day or even winter, UV rays can still adversely affect our skin.

“Applying SPF can help slow the process of aging, while also protecting our skin from damage.”

HOLD ON TO HYDRATION

Dabbs said skin health should be considered in daily practices such as wearing gloves when using detergents and cleaning products containing harsh chemicals.

“Another area to avoid which may spell problems for aging skin is the use of heat lamps when drying gel nails,” she said.

“The same can be said for using harsh hand sanitizers and poor-quality soap, all these products can lead to excessive dehydration and exacerbate the signs of aging skin on the hands.”

She recommended reapplying moisturizing products throughout the day to encourage cell renewal.

“As well as an intensive anti-aging serum or cream to enrich the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles,” she said.
