How 50p wonder liquid stops engine ‘black death’ in its tracks – it’s cheap, easy & I use it all the time, says mechanic

A MECHANIC has revealed how a 50p wonder liquid can stop engine “black death” in its tracks and save you thousands in repairs.

Motors whizz Scotty Kilmer dubbed the handy item the “best car product” he’s ever bought.

Speaking on his YouTube channel Scotty urged drivers to pick up a bottle of the miracle cure as soon as they can.

He explained: “If your engine is making strange noises, sometimes you can fix it with a bottle.

“This is carbon cleaner, it will clean carbon that has built up inside the engine.

“If carbon builds up…the car can get noisy because the oil doesn’t flow right or the tensioner on the timing chain doesn’t pop up fast enough.”

When fuel is burned in an engine it undergoes incomplete combustion.

Anybody can use it

This is where not all of the fuel is totally burned and a residue is left behind.

The bi-products of this process are carbon deposits, which can build up inside the engine and cause blockages and even seize the mechanisms.

Carbon build-up is known to petrolheads as ‘black death‘ thanks to its colour and the fact that it can kill your engine.

Fortunately, as Scotty explained, carbon cleaner can be a cheap, easy and effective way to fight back.

He went on: “Anybody can use it.

“You pour it in the engine [via the oil intake] then you rev the engine up to about 2,000rpm with a fan in front of the car so it doesn’t overheat.

“Then when you’re done you change the oil.

“All the carbon comes out with the oil and you just put new oil and a new filter in.

“I’m amazed at what this stuff can do.”

Carbon cleaner liquid can be found online for as little as £5.

A really stubborn build-up might require a whole bottle but a small amount should be enough for regular maintenance, working out to about 50p per use.

Add on about £20 and 10 minutes of work for the oil change and you’re all set.

On the other hand, if you neglect it and your engine seizes it will likely need a full replacement, which can cost thousands.

It comes after we revealed the little-known signs that your car is overheating and what to do if it does.
