In the now-viral video, which has racked up a staggering 2.3million views, the dark-haired beauty could be seen posing with her pitch black extensions for one last time.

The thick lashes consisted of smaller individual hairs of different lengths, creating a fluttery cat-eye look.

But although the woman looked fabulous, she did admit she was in a desperate need of ”a lash break”, especially as she’d been rocking the extensions for a whopping year straight.

One by one, the certified lash pro started removing the extensions, using two teeny tweezers and pulling the falsies apart.

While the process looked tedious, Abby, believed to be from the USA, couldn’t contain her excitement after she was finally able to do the ”lash scratch”.

”Haven’t rubbed my eyes in a year,” the young woman said in the video, as she was able to experience the sensation.

After giving her eyes and eyelashes a little scratch – which she confessed felt ”good” – Abby was amazed by the ”healthy” state of her natural lashes.

Pleased that they hadn’t been damaged by wearing extensions for a long period of time, the woman showed just how long the real hairs were, before demonstrating the shocking aftermath of the removed bits of hair.

It’s not just Abby who was amazed by the stark difference – hundreds of social media users couldn’t believe how good she looked without the heavy extensions as well.

Gobsmacked by the Before and After, dozens raced to comments to share their thoughts, with one writing: ”girlll your natural eye lashes are so beautifulll [sic].”

Someone else chimed in: ”You look so pretty without lashes tbh .”

A third remarked: ”This is my sign to take mine off.”

”Right I swear my natural lashes looked so good after I took off my extensions,” penned another who’d removed their fake hairs too.

”That sleep after removing lashes is so good,” a fellow beauty lover added.

How long can you wear eyelash extensions for?

”Lash extensions are designed to last 6-8 weeks, falling off naturally when our hair cycle reaches “The telogen (resting) phase of the hair cycle,” explained Madeline Calfas, Founder of The Wellness Group and Co-Founder of GMC Cosmedical.

If you do want to have lash extensions part of your beauty regime permanently the guru suggested to “alternate your months 6-8 weeks on, 6-8 weeks off to give your follicles a chance to rest and recover”.

Four ways to give yourself a glowdown

Thick fluffly lashes are out, so is the fake tan and long nails...here's how to have the ultimate glow-down in four steps...

The term “glow-down” refers to a woman removing what once was the most popular beauty choices, for a more natural look.

Eyelash extensions – Thick, bold “Russian lashes” used to be all the rage, but nowadays, girls are opt for subtle, individual eyelash extensions to lengthen what they already have.

Nails – Gone are the long, plastic talons, more women are favouring BIAB or gel manis.

Hair colour – Remember when everyone wanted icy white hair? Not anymore! Millions of women are trying to go back to their roots (literally), and have soft blondes, and warm gold tones added to their hair, in a bid to achieve the “old money blonde” look.

Makeup – Sculpting your face shape through the art of contouring is no more. Ladies are adding freckles and sweeping blush across cheekbones instead.

The damage

Eyelash extensions are applied to each individual eyelash with an adhesive.

Although there are different types of adhesives, these can sometimes cause “irritation to your eyelid, infection, or (an) allergic reaction,” the expert warned.

Depending on the adhesive the tech uses, it can ”cause the hair follicle to lose its ability to sustain hair… it may also make it difficult for the hair that it is attached to, to be able to grow and function as it normally would, resulting in a deprivation of nutrients and consequently brittle hairs that easily break”.
