Schenectady HS graduate drafted by San Francisco Giants

Left-handed pitcher and Schenectady High School graduate Greg Farone was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the seventh round, 208th overall, in the 2024 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Left-handed pitcher and Schenectady High School graduate Greg Farone was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the seventh round, 208th overall, in the 2024 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Farone was a senior at the University of Alabama last season. According to Alabama Athletics, he appeared in 17 games and finished with a 4-3 record. He recorded a 5.02 ERA, the lowest on Alabama's starting staff.

Before transferring to Alabama, the lefty spent two seasons at Herkimer College (2021-2022). As a freshman, he was named the 2022 NJCAA Division III Player of the Year and set a Herkimer program record with 139 strikeouts across 60 innings. He spent one season at the University of Louisville, transferring there in 2023, before making the move to Alabama in 2024.
