However, the silver and bronze medals are made of respective solid metals due to low price. The diameter and thickness of Paris Olympics medals are fixed. The diameter is 85mm while the thickness is 9.2mm. The weight of the gold medal is 529 gm, 525 gm for silver and 455gm for bronze.

For the unknown, the last time solid gold medals were used during 1912 Stockholm Games. In fact, in 1896 Olympics, the first prize winners were given silver medals because of its more value than gold at that time. Coming to the Paris Olympics medals, the hexagon metal in the middle of medals symbolize the geometrical shape of France. The original Eiffel Tower iron is also formed in the shape of a hexagon. The symbol is a reminder of France’s whole engagement in delivering a historic Olympic and Paralympic Games.
