Report: Tottenham rejected an £8.4m bid last week – They want double

AC Milan finally made their opening offer for Tottenham right-back, Emerson Royal, after weeks of speculation but the first bid is half of what Tottenham have asked for.

Emerson has expressed his desire for regular game time

It feels as though AC Milan have been chasing Emerson Royal for an age with Fabrizio Romano announcing all the way back in mid-May that the Brazilian is one of many Spurs players expected to be heading for the exit door this summer.

Emerson himself has done his bit to try and hurry along a deal by stating to Globo in July ‘I’m not a player to sit on the bench. I want to play. If not here, I understand but let me go to a place where I can play’.

Postecoglou only started the Brazilian eleven times in the league last season with Pedro Porro clearly favoured ahead of the ex-Barcelona defender. (TransferMarkt)

It’s not a surprise Emerson has talked up a move away from N17 after Fabrizio Romano’s reports that the right-back has already agreed to a five-year deal with Milan, making personal terms not an issue.

AC Milan offered half of Tottenham’s valuation for Emerson

Alasdair Gold revealed on the 12th of July that AC Milan had made an opening formal bid for Emerson, however, the offer fell short of Tottenham’s €20 million (£16.8 million) valuation of the defender, also stating that Borussia Dortmund holds an interest in the player too.

A fresh update from Alasdair Gold has revealed that Milan offered only €10 million (£8.4 million) for Emerson.

The value of the bid was believed to have first been verbally rejected, only for Milan to formally offer the same amount, subsequently meaning yet another rejection, this time formally.

The large difference in valuations between the sides has reportedly caused a deal to go cold with no advancements on a move since Milan’s opening offer was rejected, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Spurs Web opinion

I am in agreement with the opinion that Tottenham in general needs to be more ruthless with their sales and secure transfer fees to allow Postecoglou to move his squad in the direction he wishes, however, Milan’s opening offer is way below what Emerson is worth.

The 25-year-old has been capped ten times by Brazil and has experience with both Barcelona and Tottenham. Emerson still has two years remaining on his current deal, meaning, in my opinion, Spurs are well within their rights to reject such a low-ball offer.
