Topeka roundabout to shut down soon, here's where

TOPEKA (KSNT) - A roundabout in Topeka is getting re-done.

The intersection at Southwest 21st Street and Southwest Urish Road will be under construction starting next month. Braxton Copley, a spokesman for the City of Topeka, explains what you should be aware about in the coming weeks.

"It's going to have to be a full closure," Copley said. "And its basically going in and doing a mill and overlay around that entire roundabout. And there's really no way to safely go in and mill and overlay a roundabout and still have it open to traffic."

The project is one of several this summer. Construction is expected to start in the second week of August.

Copley also wants to remind everyone when driving in roundabouts, the law in Kansas says the vehicle in the roundabout has the right of way. So, if you are approaching the roundabout, you need to slow down to yield to the traffic and to the pedestrians crossing.
