Albany man arrested on felony drug, weapon charges

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Albany Police announced that an arrest has been made in connection to a menacing investigation. Shareem Daniels, 25, of Albany, is facing numerous charges.

On July 15 around 4:45 p.m., police responded to the 200 block of South Pearl Street following reports of someone having a weapon. Arriving officers spoke with a victim who told police they had been threatened with a handgun while inside a home on the 200 block of Green Street.

A short time later, police located a man walking near Schuyler Street and Franklin Street who matched the description of the suspect and stopped him. The man, later identified as Daniels, was taken into custody after speaking with officers.

Detectives later executed a search warrant at the Green Street home and recovered a loaded high capacity magazine and quantities of powder fentanyl, powder cocaine, crack cocaine and crystal meth. Daniels now faces the following charges:

  • Second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Second-degree menacing
  • Unlawful imprisonment

Police say no injuries were reported during the initial menacing incident. Daniels was arraigned at the Albany City Criminal Court on Tuesday morning before being remanded to the Albany County Jail.
