Only a handful of Ministers have held the Home portfolio in Tamil Nadu

For many years between 1946 and 1967, the State had separate Home Ministers. Since 1967, when the DMK came to power for the first time, the Chief Ministers themselves look after the subject. In the last 57 years, only when Chief Ministers went abroad was the portfolio given to other Ministers, as it was done in in 1968, 1971, 1978, and 1985
