Chris Brown will be full-time Bills play-by-play man

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Chris Brown will be the full-time Bills play-by-play radio broadcaster on WGR 550 moving forward, the team announced Tuesday.

Brown served as the interim play-by-play man since January 2023, calling 18 regular season games and four playoff games in that time. He was joined by analyst Eric Wood and sideline reporter Sal Capaccio throughout the season.

He officially replaces John Murphy, who took over the role in 2003. Murphy suffered a stroke in January 2023 and has been recovering since. He officially stepped down from the job in May. Murphy was inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2019.

"This decision made a lot of sense for the Bills and Audacy," Bills COO Pete Guelli said in a release. "Chris has been doing the job at an extremely high level for parts of the past two seasons along with Eric Wood and Sal Capaccio. He has strong institutional knowledge of our team while also understanding the pulse of our fans. We look forward to Chris carrying the torch of the legends this job has produced in Van Miller and John Murphy."

Brown is the third full-time play-by-play broadcaster in team history. In addition to the broadcasting role, he hosts the weekly talk show One Bills Live on WGR 550.

The Bills open the preseason at home against the Chicago Bears on Aug. 10. The regular season opener is on Sept. 8 against the Arizona Cardinals.
