In a Reddit post, user Infamous-Ad3287 revealed the exact steps she took to grow out her locks.

She explained that her hair, which went from curly to wavy during her childhood, had significant heat damage.

The Redditor’s haircare journey saw her not only fix the issue but also boost her growth.

Her before and after comparison showed how her locks went from just below her shoulder to waist-length in 12 months.

She revealed that one tactic which helped was hair oiling “one to three times a week”.

The poster explained that she applies oil to both her scalp and her ends “when they look dry”.

She recommended applying oil to your hair one to three hours before washing.

“In the shower, I make sure to leave my shampoo and conditioner in for at least three minutes,” she said.

“Afterwards, I will sometimes use an herbal rinse made from watercress leaves, [which] you can get at any asian market.”

However, she mainly credited a quick daily activity for the increased growth.

“I also emphasize scalp massages, I do that at least 10 minutes a day,” she explained.

While the Reddit user joked that she likely “spent way too much money” on her massager, cheaper versions are available.

You can pick up a silicone scalp massager for just 69p from Temu.

The Bigmingham Dermatology Clinic reported on the benefits of scalp massage for your hair.

They explained that the technique can help to nourish hair-shafts and strengthen the root.

The 4 stages of the hair growth cycle

Hair experts at Philip Kingsley shared the four stages of the hair growtn cycle are: Anagen, Catagen, Telogen and Exogen

Anagen Phase: Also known as the ‘Growth Phase’ or ‘Active Phase’, is when the cells in the root of your hair are most rapidly dividing so more new hair is formed.

During the Anagen Phase, hair grows around half an inch a month [about six inches a year], and faster in the summer than in winter.

This phase of the hair growth cycle lasts an average of three to five years.

Catagen Phase: Following the Anagen Phase, your hair cycle enters a short transitional phase known as the Catagen Phase, which signals the end of active hair growth and cuts individual hairs off from the blood supply and from the cells that produce new hair.

Approximately three percent of all hairs are in this stage at any time and it lasts for around 10 days.

Telogen Phase: The third stage of your natural hair growth cycle is the Telogen Phase, a resting period when strands remain in their follicles but are not actively growing.

An estimate of 10-15 percent of your hairs are in the Telogen Phase at any given moment.

The Telogen Phase lasts around three months or 100 days.

Exogen Phase: The final stage of the Hair Growth Cycle, when individual hair strands are released from their follicles and fall out.

Now the whole process begins again.

According to the experts, this aids in “enhancing new hair growth while strengthening the existing hair.”

They added that scalp massaging also softens and conditions the hair, making it more manageable.

It aids in the even distribution of the hair’s natural oils, creating a glossy and shiny finish.

The professionals also credited scalp massaging with boosting resilience and preventing fragility and split ends.

According to the Redditor, their are additonal steps you can take to fend off split ends.

“I do a lot to also make sure my ends are healthy, I use a silk pillow case and cap at night, and I try to keep my hair braided whenever i’m not out and about,” she said.

“I also have recently been doing the search and destroy method, which [involves] searching for split ends individually and cutting them before they split further down the hair shaft.”
