Yale Law snubs now-famous alum J.D. Vance

Having a grad up for the second highest political office in the county would usually be a big deal, but Yale Law School’s website makes no mention of Ohio Sen. J.D. — and hasn’t since 2017, the Daily Beast reports.

Instead, the prestigious school highlighted an item on a Taylor Swift reading group Tuesday instead of the news that Vance was picked as the running mate for former President Donald Trump.

Vance, 39, graduated from Yale Law in 2013 and spent most of his career in venture capital before being elected to the Senate in 2022. Before his Senate run, Vance’s claim to fame was penning Hillbilly Elegy in 2016, a hit novel that was made into a critically panned Netflix film that describes his impoverished rural upbringing.

Vance gave a book talk at Yale’s campus in 2017 and that’s the last time Yale Law acknowledged his existence, the Daily Beast reports.

Officials from Yale Law did not return comment from the Daily Beast on Vance’s nomination and its lack of press on his nomination, though one Yale alumni was happy to share their thoughts on the matter with the media outlet.

“Yale Law School should be embarrassed,” book critic Michiko Kakutani, who graduated Yale Law in 1976, told The Daily Beast. “It's now given us J.D. Vance, Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh, John Yoo, and Alan Dershowitz.”

Should Vance become the next Vice President, The Daily Beast notes another prominent Yale Law alum and political hopeful is vying for his seat — Vivek Ramaswamy, who recently ran against Trump for the Republican presidential nomination.
