Or worse, losing one earring because they’ve been left loose somewhere.

Then you’ve got missing earring backs or hoops tangled up amongst your necklaces.

So earring designer Sophie McGown’s genius trick to use spare buttons to store them is as practical as it is cheap.

In a short video, she simply popped the earring poles through the button holes, and secured them with the earring backs, et voilà! A simple hack to keep your earrings in their pairs.

The Ear Sass founder, from Perthshire in Scotland, said: “We all have random buttons lying around the house, like the ones that come as spares on clothes.

“We rarely ever use them, but we’re too afraid to throw them away!

“We think this is the perfect way to put them to good use and take care of your beautiful earrings at the same time.”

She added: “This is what I use when I’m going away or heading off on my holidays and I promise you, once you’ve tried it, you’ll be asking yourself why you’d never thought of it before!

“We’re even popping a pretty pink button in with all our earrings orders over the summer, so people can try out the simple travel storage trick for themselves with their new earrings.”

After sharing her hack on the Ear Sass Instagram page, people have been left stunned they hadn’t considered it until now.

One person said: “Why has this immediately changed my life?”

Meanwhile, another wrote: “Mind blown! Simple but so effective.”

So whether you’re packing for some sunshine and your long awaited summer holiday, a festival, wedding or just a night away from home, make sure you have some buttons handy.

Ear Sass was born from stylist Sophie’s love and obsession of big bold and beautiful colour earrings.

Each earring design is named after strong influential women in her life, who have gone through tough times but found fashion and jewellery have helped to bring hits of joy into their lives.

The statement earring brand earlier released Issy Star charity earrings which were worn by Princess Kate and raised thousands of pounds for mental health charity Brave Mind.

The £25.50 earrings are a tribute to Sophie’s cousin Issy Phipps who took her own life in April 2023.
