Media is fanning
Trump hatred

Re: “A bloodied Trump is safe after assassination attempt” (Page A1, July 14).

The left often argues that using the “n” word or any ethnic or gender-based slur should be censored because it represents incitement to violence against these groups. But we fail to recognize that if the media is constantly arguing that Donald Trump is a puppet of Vladimir Putin, that democracy will end if he is reelected, or that women’s rights will be permanently crushed should he return to office, we don’t seem to see that this is a similar incitement to violence.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the shooter was deluded enough to believe he was saving our country from the man who would destroy our democracy as a result of his actions.

Maybe it’s time to reassess our values, our rhetoric and our media.

City leaders have
failed Willow Glen

Mayor Mahan continues to create unsafe living conditions for us. Willow Glen residents have lost their voices and now need to get used to “safe sleeping sites.”

Fifteen million dollars has been invested in the homeless community, tabbed to clean up local waterways. Rather than investing the money into rehabilitating the homeless back into the workforce, council members have found yet another way to strike the voice of property owners.

The fear that has spread in our community means nothing to the officials we voted in. The increase in crime has spiked in recent months. Encampments should not be placed near our neighborhoods. Is equality now being tested based on the social classes we fall in? Have homeless residents been given more financial advantage compared to the working class?

Perhaps come Nov. 5, residents should take a closer look at the council members being voted in.

Frivolous lawsuits
degrade legal system

Re: “Family of teen who died in chip challenge files lawsuit” (Page C7, July 12).

So another lawyer has smelled money, suing Hershey, Walgreens and others for selling a very spicy corn chip which unfortunately may have contributed to the death of a young man.

I say why stop there? What if he ate a Carolina Reaper chili? Those are super hot and should not be allowed to be grown or sold. I say sue the farmer who grew the peppers used, sue John Deere who probably made the planting or harvesting equipment. Sue whoever developed the chili used. Sue the seed supplier. If anybody else is even remotely responsible for this tragedy in any way, they need to pay as well. Go big or go home.

I for one am fed up with frivolous lawsuits like this.
