Nikki Haley hit with wave of boos as she takes stage at Trump's convention

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley spoke at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee Tuesday, urging everyone to unite behind former President Donald Trump — but was greeted with boos as she took the stage.

"My fellow Republicans, President Trump — President Trump asked me to speak to this convention in the name of unity," said Haley as delegates who jumped to their feet to boo and wave her away settled.

"It was a gracious invitation and I was happy to accept. I will start by making one thing perfectly clear. Donald Trump has my strong endorsement, period."

This comes after a long and bitter primary fight between Trump and Haley, who was the last Republican candidate to stay in the race opposing him. The battle grew ugly and personal, with Trump at one point attacking her husband's military service.

Even for several weeks after Haley dropped out of the race, a large percent of Republican voters in primaries continued voting for her, as a kind of protest against Trump being the nominee.

Haley initially declined to endorse Trump, urging him to do everything in his power to court her voters, but later came around and made clear she would vote for the former president.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden has sought to try to persuade as many Haley voters as possible to cross the aisle for him.
