Former VPSO deputy Kenwood White, father of Abbeville mayor, dies at 72

Born March 6, 1952, the Abbeville High School graduate joined the Marine Corps Reserves in 1971 and served until 1977. He served as a deputy with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office for many years, followed by a career in the oilfield. 

ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY)-- Kenwood Paul White, Sr., 72, the father of Abbeville Mayor Roslyn White, died on Thursday, July 11, at his home, surrounded by family.

Born March 6, 1952, the Abbeville High School graduate joined the Marine Corps Reserves in 1971 and served until 1977. He served as a deputy with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office for many years, followed by a career in the oilfield. 

Kenwood White was passionate about the outdoors, especially when it came to fishing. Along with having interests in cattle drives and cutting horses, he also enjoyed sing karaoke with friends.

He is survived by his sons, Kenwood Paul “Butch” White, Jr (Tammy), and Albert West White (Carla); daughter, Mayor Roslyn White; grandchildren, Kaylee Broussard (Jake), Kelly White (partner Reid), Kylie Langlinais (Nick), Albert White, Jr., and Gabriel White; great grandchildren, Grayson Broussard and Palmer Kate Broussard; brother, Kerry White; sister, Karen Sue Touchet; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Durr LeFort of Esther; stepfather, Rudy LeFort of Galiano; father, Minos White of Esther; sister, Katherine White; brother, Kelvin “Coon” White; brothers-in-law, Arnold “Pete” Lege and Abby Broussard. 

Memorial services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 19, at Vincent Funeral Home, located at 209 S. St. Charles St. in Abbeville. Reverend Nicholas DuPre' will officiate the services.

Visiting hours will take place Friday, July 19 from 10 a.m., until time of services. A rosary being prayed takes place at 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Kenwood White to Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency.
