'Unity in the streets, divisive in the sheets': Stunned Jon Stewart shreds RNC message

Jon Stewart returned to "The Daily Show" on Tuesday following day two of the Republican National Convention and blasted hypocritical — and "divisive" Republicans who've called for "unity" following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

Launching the show, Stewart played a clip of Republicans blasting Democrats for "vitriol" and "hatred" and calling for turning the "temperature down."

That includes Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, who called for turning this moment into a moment that "helps us down the path of healing and unity."

A stunned Stewart said "wow!" and took a breath, pointedly noting that Johnson is one of the more "divisive" politicians out there today.

"To hear that 'healing' rhetoric coming from Ron Johson is impressive," Stewart deadpanned. "I, for one, look forward to hearing his unifying remarks on the convention floor."

Predictably, the show then played a clip appearing to show Johnson do the exact opposite at the convention, as he called Democrats a "clear and present danger for America."

Johnson later said the speech was not the one he intended to give, and blamed the teleprompter for having an old version.

Stewart then dramatically — and slowly — put on his glasses and flipped through his notes.

"I'm sorry, I guess he's what's known as unity in the streets, divisive in the sheets," quipped Stewart, to applause and laughs.

Stewart then called Johnson a "d-----bag" for his explanation that it was the wrong speech loaded in the teleprompter.

Stewart then jabbed "fiery" Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene "struggled mightily" to stick to the unity them — and that her body "rejected" the notion, as she let out strange closed-teeth laughs after multiple sentences.

"As though it were transplanted like a monkey heart," he chided.

Stewart later added: "She knows she's making that noise, right?"

The host then turned his attention to what he called the strangest part of the night — when the RNC more closely resembled the DNC.

He poked fun at Amber Rose, founder of the LA SlutWalk event and a sex-positive, pro-choice celebrity, taking the stage to stump for Trump. After playing a clip when Rose told MAGA supporters "it's all love" and said Trump doesn't care if his supporters are white, Black, gay or straight.

"It's all love!" jabbed Stewart. It's love! You just better hope all that love doesn't lead to an ectopic pregnancy."

Stewart played a clip of Sean O'Brien, general president of the Internation Brotherhood of Teamsters, calling for stronger worker protections — a platform more often associated with Democrats.

"Yes, apparently Republicans are pro-worker now and pro-union," chided Stewart.

He highlighted multiple Republican governors have signed so-called "Right to Work" anti-union laws, and Trump himself helped kill legislation that would've protected unions.

"They're going to be so embarrassed!" he wheezes.
