At SLO Provisions, the menu is a celebration of local ingredients and Southern hospitality, thanks to proprietors Dwyne Willis and Steve Bland. Originally established as a spot for take-away fare and gourmet products, SLO Provisions has evolved into a cornerstone of the Upper Monterey District, drawing locals and visitors alike to its welcoming ambiance.

Chef Cody Thomasson’s creations reflect a perfect harmony of classical training and comfort food favorites, ensuring a dining experience that’s both comforting and memorable. This historic landmark invites you to discover hidden gems, savor local flavors, and connect with the beauty of the coast. Originally established in 1852, Sebastian’s has been a beloved fixture of the Central Coast community, serving everyone from whalers and fishermen to miners and neighboring ranches.

 

Despite the passage of time, Sebastian’s has remained a constant presence, a testament to the enduring spirit of the coast. Today, it continues to delight visitors with its warm hospitality, delicious cuisine, and captivating history. Whether you’re enjoying a Heart Ranch burger on the deck with an ocean view or browsing for essentials and souvenirs, Sebastian’s offers a quintessential California experience.

Next up on our adventure is the charming town of Harmony, where history and artistry converge to create a truly unique experience.

Founded in 1869 as a dairy settlement, Harmony, nestled near the Italian border, thrived as the hub of Central Coast dairy production for nearly five decades. Despite facing challenges and changes over the years, Harmony has reinvented itself as a vibrant artist’s haven, boasting a population of just 18 residents.

As we explore this quaint village, we’ll discover Harmony’s rich history, evident in its well-preserved buildings and charming landmarks. From the Harmony Valley Creamery to the Harmony Glass Works and Pottery Shop, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to visit Harmony Chapel & Gardens, a picturesque spot perfect for weddings, picnics, and unforgettable photo ops.

But Harmony isn’t just about its past – it’s also a thriving artistic community. Wander through the artisan galleries to admire hand-blown glass pieces and witness sculptors at work behind the potter’s wheel. With its quirky art and funky facades, Harmony is a magnet for wanderlust.

As we take a short detour off Pacific Coast Highway, we’ll be enchanted by the renovations underway and the peaceful ambiance of this hidden gem. Located between San Simeon’s Hearst Castle and Paso Robles’ renowned wine region, Harmony invites us to explore its enchanting streets and uncover its hidden treasures.

Farm to Cone

After a day of adventure, it’s time for a sweet treat. Our next stop is Negranti’s Creamery in Atascadero, where they churn out handcrafted ice cream with wholesome ingredients sourced from American family farms.

Established in 2011 in Templeton, Negranti Creamery was the first in the U.S. to offer 100% sheep’s milk ice cream at wholesale and retail levels. Today, their creations can be found in stores across the West Coast and shipped nationwide.

Their commitment to freshness shines through in every scoop. Using locally sourced, organic ingredients whenever possible, their ice cream is made from scratch, boasting flavors with just five ingredients or less.

But what truly sets Negranti’s apart is their use of sheep’s milk, adding a naturally sweet and nutty flavor to their creations. Not only is it lactose-intolerant friendly, but it also contains half the calories of traditional ice cream and is 45% higher in protein.

Wine Country BBQ

After satisfying our sweet tooth, it’s time to indulge in some hearty dinner, and tonight, we’re headed to Jeffry’s Wine Country BBQ in Paso Robles. For all you BBQ lovers like me, this spot is a must-visit!

Since its opening on Father’s Day Weekend in 2018, Jeffry’s has become a beloved hangout for locals and a top choice for visitors. Chef Jeff Wiesinger, known for his award-winning creations, brings his expertise to every dish, offering a unique blend of wood-fired smoked, scratch-made cuisine.

Located just half a block from downtown Paso Robles City Park, Jeffry’s boasts a relaxed outdoor courtyard setting, making it the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy some wine country comfort food. From dry-rubbed, house-smoked meats like tri-tip, brisket, and pulled pork to mouthwatering mac & cheese and daily specials like smoked baby back ribs and award-winning paella, there’s something to satisfy every craving.

Pair your meal with a premium local wine or craft beer from their extensive selection, and savor the flavors of Paso Robles in every bite. With its casual vibe and delicious offerings, Jeffry’s Wine Country BBQ is sure to be a highlight of our evening in Paso Robles.

Behind the Secret Door

Our next stop is a hidden gem here in Paso Robles, and with me as your guide, The Monthly Traveler, you’re in for a treat. But shhhhh… let’s keep it our little secret.

Welcome to Eleven Twenty Two, a speakeasy that will transport you back to the 1930s from the moment you step inside. The candlelit ambiance, the sound of craft cocktails being shaken, and the faint music from the Great Gatsby era set the stage for an unforgettable experience. And when you catch the scent of torched rosemary, lemon, and cinnamon garnishing your drinks, you know you’re in for something special.

Finding Eleven Twenty Two is part of the adventure. Hidden behind Pappy McGregor’s Pub in downtown Paso Robles, this speakeasy is a well-kept secret. Once inside Pappy’s, make your way through the dining area to the rear patio, then turn left and press the doorbell. A hostess will greet you shortly, and the magic begins.

At Eleven Twenty Two, it’s all about the cocktails. With roots in the Prohibition Era, this speakeasy offers an experience unlike any other. Leave your phones and cameras behind and immerse yourself in the moment. With a motto of “No phones, no photography, just amazing cocktails and service,” Eleven Twenty Two invites you to step back in time and savor every sip.

The Field of Light, with its breathtaking multi-acre display of illuminated spheres, is nothing short of magical. Imagine strolling through rolling hills illuminated by over 100,000 stemmed spheres powered by solar energy, casting a mesmerizing glow across the landscape.

But the magic doesn’t stop there. Sensorio’s latest addition, the Light Towers, is a maze of 69 towering structures composed of over 17,000 illuminated wine bottles. Step inside and you’ll feel the history – the building dates back to 1919 when it was a bustling barber shop. Now, it’s a cozy cafe dishing out homemade goodness that’ll make you feel right at home.

From fluffy seasonal pancakes to hearty chili and eggs, Del Monte Cafe has something for everyone. So let’s fuel up and get ready for another day of unforgettable experiences in SLO CAL!

Vinyl Wonderland

Our next stop is a must-find whenever visiting new areas: a record store. We’re heading to Boo Boo Records to uncover some hidden musical gems and see what vinyl treasures await us! Founded by Ed Taylor and Glenn Forbes in 1974, Boo Boo Records has been a staple in San Luis Obispo County for over forty years.

From its humble beginnings as a small venture with a modest investment of $700, Boo Boo’s has grown into a beloved institution. Despite the initial challenges, Taylor and Forbes’s passion for music and tireless dedication propelled Boo Boo’s forward. Over the years, the store has evolved to meet the changing demands of music enthusiasts, expanding its offerings to include DVDs and embracing the resurgence of vinyl.

Today, Boo Boo’s is not just a record store; it’s a cultural hub where music history and community spirit intertwine.
