My dad was drunk when he wrote out my birth certificate -now my very normal name is a monstrosity I’m stuck with

A WOMAN has revealed that she was left with a monstrosity of a name after her drunk dad misspelled it when writing her birth certificate.

Naming a child can be an extremely tricky task, with many parents agonising over names for months before the child is born.

However, instead of waiting to consult with her mother, the woman’s dad scrawled her name on her birth certificate as soon as she was born.

The 27-year-old shared that she was supposed to have a very normal name, but her dad completely forgot how to spell it in his drunken state.

She added that her mum was “out of it” after giving birth to her, so he didn’t have anyone to double check the spelling with.

Taking to TikTok, she said: “My dad got drunk while my mum was delivering me and my mum was too out of it to name me so my dad had to.

“He took ‘Khloe’ and turned it into ‘Kloie’ because he couldn’t remember how to spell out.”

In the UK, you have 42 days to register your baby after they have been born, so there’s no pressure to have a name picked out until after you have met the child.

If Kloie ever wants to change her name legally, she can do so via deed poll, which costs £48.32 in the UK.

You have to be over 18 to make the change and must send documents to the Royal Courts of Justice to do so.

However, it can be tricky and time consuming to have your name changed on official documents such as your passport, so some people opt to go by their middle name, or a nickname, if they are not a fan of the name their parents gave to them.

Kloie’s video, which was posted under the username @kloierenee, has gone viral, racking up over 10 million views on the video sharing platform.

TikTok users raced to the comments section, with many others sharing similar stories.

One person said: “My name is Kleauwy.”

Replying to this, Kloie said: “I’m so sorry.”

Another person said: “I’m Sophie, my dad liked Sophie off Coronation Street and got it tattooed on him so my mum got angry and decided to name me Sophie to change the meaning of the tattoo”.

The UK has no law restricting names, but names that contain obscenities, numerals, misleading titles, or are impossible to pronounce are likely to be rejected when registering a child.

A third person said: “Hey kloie, I’m chloi”.

A fourth person said: “Hi Kloie, I’m Khloewei because my dad was drunk too.”

A fifth person, name Chloe, added: “My dad spelled it normal”.

Kloie responded: “How does it feel to be God’s favourite?”
