So, if you want to cut back on your time with the bleach, there are four viral trends you need to avoid.

Kitchen designer Rossella Marzocchella, of kitchen handle company Decor and Decor, kicked off her recommendations by warning against having dark kitchen cabinets.

“Fingerprints, smudges, dust and food debris show up much more easily in darker kitchens,” she said.

“While this isn’t a bad thing as you can see more easily when you need to clean your kitchen, for those with busy lifestyles this often it isn’t practical.

“Some experts may advise you to try matte black as an alternative, as a matte finish can mask smudges a little better, but in my experience, if you don’t have the time, you would be better off picking another colour kitchen.”

Likewise, Rossella said having marble worktops in the kitchen isn’t a good idea either.

“Marble is porous and can stain easily if drips or stains are left for too long on its surface,” she added.

“If you do have an expensive marble worktop, you will have to clean it regularly to keep it maintained.”

It’s also important to be careful with the products you use to clean if you do have marble worktops.

“Bleach, vinegar and generally chemicals that are acidic can cause dull scars on the marble surface and should not be used when cleaning,” Rossella added.

And while stars such as David and Victoria Beckham have adopted the stainless steel cabinet trend in their kitchens, it’s one that will require “constant cleaning”, Rossella warned.

The last trend Rossella said to steer clear of was Zellige tiles – also known as Moroccan tiles.

The ceramic tiles are hand moulded, hand-cut and hand-glazed, making every tile unique.

And while the individuality adds to the tiles’ charm, it can also make them hard to clean.

Home upgrades that add the most value to a house

The best renovation to add value totally depends on your property, the local market and your potential buyers.

Zoopla shared a list of upgrades that will instantly add value to your home.

  1. Loft conversion – increase of 15%
  2. Off-street parking – adds £50,000 to property price
  3. New kitchen – increase of 15%
  4. Garage conversion – increase of 15%
  5. Cellar or basement conversion – increase of 10-15%
  6. Open plan living space – increase of 3-5%
  7. New bathroom – increase of 3-5%

“Dirt, dust, grease and other bits of food can easily become trapped in these tiles because of the imperfect and uneven shapes of the tiles,” she continued.

“Because of the shapes of the tiles, it also makes them much more difficult to clean.

“The protruding edges on the tiles can cause your cleaning cloth to snag too and add to the dirt.”
