‘I’ll have 10 bottles please’ shoppers drool over new Aldi Whispering Angel dupe – and it’s the perfect summertime drink

WHEN Adele said that it “turned her into a barking dog”, we all knew Whispering Angel was a rosé worth drinking.

But with a magnum of the designer booze costing £42, it’s not a bottle we’re picking up every week for our Friday night tipple.

Whispering Angel is the flagship wine of Château d’Esclans, a vineyard north of Saint Tropez, France.

After exploding onto the market, it became a celebrity favourite – including among the Beckhams.

The hype is thanks to its gorgeous bottle, Instagrammable look and champagne-style branding.

Whispering Angel made rosé cool again, lots of sommeliers believe.

But where does one turn when we can’t fork out £22 for a 75cl bottle of rosé or £42 for a magnum, but still want that luxury experience?

Luckily, we can turn to Aldi for its Chassaux et Fils Sainte Victoire Provence Rosé.

The budget supermarket’s new blushed beverage is a dupe of the posh wine at just £12.49.

“We have something that will ‘tipple’ your fancy,” Aldi’s social media team shared on Instagram.

“Our new Sainte Victoire Provence Rosé is the perfect summertime drink – just chill and enjoy!”

Wine lovers flocked to the comments to beam that the new booze had a very similar vibe to Whispering Angel.

“I’ll have 10 bottles please,” one gushed.

Another said they “bet it tastes the same” as its pricey inspiration.

There was a period where rosé was viewed as inferior to its red and white counterparts.

But its popularity has rocketed over the last five years, partly thanks to Whispering Angel.

WHY fork out for an expensive bottle of wine when you can virtually get the same taste, but for less?

Aldi dupe: Chassaux Et Fils Atlantique Rosé, £4.99. Or Aldi’s Sainte Victoire Provence Rosé, £12.49.

The hype isn’t set to die down either.

Global consumption of rosé will climb from 2.23 billion litres in 2020 to 2.63 billion in 2025, according to market analyst GlobalData.

It’s not just Aldi’s rosé that has Brits drooling, though.

The German supermarket’s own-brand gin – which is half the price of top rivals – has been named “one of the best in the world”.

Haysmith’s, Aldi’s own-label gin brand, picked up gold at the Spirits Business Global Gin Masters – beating all its leading competitors.

Haysmith’s gin lineup includes Seville Orange & Persian Lime Gin (£14.99), London Dry Gin (£15.99) and Haymith’s Premium Sloe Gin (£14.99) – all of which picked up the highest accolade at the ceremony.
