Leicestershire solicitor announces two new recruits

Leicestershire solicitor announces two new recruits Wednesday 17 July, 2024

A Leicestershire based corporate solicitor has announced two new recruits to help to grow his business established in 2020. Steven Mather was previously a partner in a practice in Leicestershire, but in January 2020 set up his own legal business. He is part of a growing number of consultant solicitors – where lawyers are no longer tied to traditional law firm partnerships. Instead, they carry out their work through platforms such as Nexa Law, a firm authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. The consultancy model is “aimed at creating the perfect modern combination of excellent support for clients and a real freedom and work-life balance for the solicitors” according to Mather. The two new additions are Amit Kapoor and Alistair Haggerty. Amit recently qualified as a solicitor and joins Steven’s business as a sub-consultant solicitor. He is a highly experienced technology professional turned Contracts consultant, turned business owner, and now lawyer. His past work has included names such as Tech Mahindra, Fujitsu, Balfour Beatty, Universal Music Group, SABMiller, Home Office and Cabinet Office. He will help with advisory, contract drafting, and dispute resolution work in technology and outsourcing, recruitment, employment and public procurement matters.Alistair meanwhile qualified as a solicitor in 2013. He and Steven previously worked together and Alistair has since worked both in house and with national and regional firms in the Midlands. He is a litigation specialist, having been involved in a wide range of cases from multi-million pound commercial disputes, to banking and finance litigation, insolvency, employment law and tribunal work, and property disputes. Alistair joins Nexa Law directly as a consultant solicitor. Steven Mather said: “My business has gone from zero clients to 500+ clients in four years. One corollary of selling my services on the basis of ‘excellent service’ is the need to continue to provide that even when I am busy (or need a holiday!). It is for this reason that I’ve recruited Amit and Alistair, both as consultants”. “At my last firm, we employed around 50 members of staff but I didn’t want to employ staff this time round. Instead, Alistair and Amit are both joining as consultants with their own businesses. My clients get the benefit of their expertise and capacity, and they get the advantage of running their own life and not being dictated to work a certain number of hours and bill a certain amount each month by demanding law firm bosses”.

Steven's practise covers a wide range of business law matters from buying and selling businesses, contracts, company law, employment law, intellectual property and more besides.

Eliot Hibbert is the CEO of Nexa Law. He said: “I am delighted to see Steven growing his own legal business through Nexa. We’re pleased that Alistair made the decision to join Nexa as a consultant. We like to think that Nexa allows lawyers to run their own business, including under their own brand if they like, while leaving the back office matters to Nexa’s head office staff”
