LASWARCO LAUNCHES MOBILE APPLICATION FOR PACKAGED WATER PRODUCERS IN LAGOS

The Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO) has launched a mobile application to simplify registration and certification for packaged water producers as part of efforts to guarantee the health of the people by improving the processes associated with regulating the water production chain in the State. 
 
Speaking at the launch held today in Alausa, Ikeja, the Special Adviser to the Governor on the Environment and Water Resources, Hon. Kunle Rotimi-Akodu stated that the well-being of the citizens is the Government’s priority. 

He said, “As the pace-setter State, the Sanwo-Olu administration will not compromise the global standards which are critical for safe drinking water, today’s launch is central to the provision of quality drinking water and halting the spread of waterborne diseases”. 

Earlier in her welcome address, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mrs. ‘Funke Adepoju emphasised the crucial role of the Stakeholders in the water matrix and maintained that the importance of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene cannot be overstated. 

“As the Regulator, we have continued to upgrade the methods of accreditation to ensure that water service providers adhere to regulatory guidelines to safeguard the people of the state hence the introduction of information technology via the dedicated application to make registration and licensing convenient for the producers while ensuring compliance and feedback between the Stakeholders and the Regulator seamless.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Engr. Olakunle Adegbite and his Office of Environmental Services counterpart, Dr. Omobolaji Gaji  reminded the water service providers that the symbiotic relationship hinged on essential collaboration to ensure the provision of safe water for the teeming population in Lagos State and ensure the viability of the business for sustainability 

In a similar vein, the representative of USAID-NIGERIA, Dr. Jurpe Godep stressed the importance of the mobile application as a global best practice towards creating a dependable database for the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission. 

The mobile application developer and technology expert, Mr. Ayodeji Dare presented a step-by-step enlightenment of the easy-to-use app which can be done on various digital devices.
 
The launch of the mobile application for seamless, digital registration and certification for packaged water producers in Lagos State is another first by the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission to streamline the processes for monitoring and compliance tracking. It also ensures that packaged water meets the highest safety and quality standards for better service delivery in the ‘WASH ‘ sector of Lagos State.
