J.D. Vance's college roommate busts him over why he flipped on Trump

During an appearance on CNN early Wednesday morning, Sen. J.D. Vance's (R-OH) college roommate when they both attended Yale Law School called into question the GOP senator's purported belief in Donald Trump's MAGA philosophy.

Speaking with CNN host Kasie Hunt from Spain, Josh McLaurin — now a Democratic state senator in Georgia — first began by stating that he thought long and hard about releasing the now-notorious text he received from Vance where he called Trump "America's Hitler," but felt the public needed to know how the GOP senator from Ohio really thought about the man whose ticket he has now joined.

Having said that, he pointed out that Vance's conversion to becoming a MAGA warrior is suspect.

"Here's what I think," he began. "I don't buy his explanation the way that he says it. I think his instincts told him what Americans see for themselves: that Trump has a narcissistic style personality, cared about attention and fame, wants to be the showrunner who picks among people in dramatic fashion thank doing an Apprentice-style VP selection process — that's Trump."

"And he cares about revenge and he wants to get revenge on his political opponents and J.D. has signed up for that," he continued. "So I do think that J.D. has changed. I actually think he sincerely has changed. And to your point about credit, he gets credit for not just being an empty suit. So many of his Republican elected official colleagues just say whatever they need to say, even if privately they hold different beliefs."

"I think he has sort of forced himself to be angry enough to carry that anger through to where he has actually changed as a person and is willing to embrace and amplify all of this MAGA messaging willingly," he concluded.
