Good morning Mets fans!

Mets first baseman Pete Alonso struck out in the ninth inning of the National League team’s 5-3 defeat to the American League in Tuesday’s All-Star Game at Globe Life Field, the home of the Texas Rangers.

Alonso opened the final frame against Cleveland Guardians star Emmanuel Clase. The 29-year-olds faced four consecutive cutters to start the at-bat before swinging and missing on a slider for the third strike. It was the only plate appearance of Alonso’s fourth Midsummer Classic.

Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran was named the MVP of the game after a two-run home run in the fifth inning, which proved to be the difference in victory for the American League.

Alonso’s unsuccessful at-bat marked a disappointing end to an eventful All-Star break.

When the Derby came around on Monday, Alonso, a two-time champion of the event, flamed out in the first round.

Faced with a big spot in the ninth, Alonso concluded his break by whiffing on his lone at-bat in the actual All-Star Game.
