Captain Tom’s daughter’s scandal-hit charity STILL has £280k in the bank after illegal spa probe
THE scandal-hit Captain Tom Foundation still has £280,000 of assets in the bank, accounts show.
The charity, set up by the Army veteran’s daughter Hannah and husband Colin Ingram-Moore, drew down its holdings by £155,000 after it was probed by the Charity Commission last year.
Papers filed at Companies House on Wednesday showed it had £286,000 in assets including money in the bank and items owned by the charity.
It owes £24,000 to creditors within the next year meaning its net assets stand at £262,000 — compared to £417,000 in November 2022.
However it was unclear what the cash still owed had been spent on or who it would be paid to.
The accounts also stated the firm no longer has any employees.
It previously had two members of staff on its books.
The charity was set up to hand grants to disability and healthcare projects in 2021 and took in more than £1m in its first year after fundraising legend Captain Tom’s death.
It has not been accepting donations since the regulator launched an investigation last July.
Last year a court heard the charity would be closed down at the end of the probe.
We revealed Colin Ingram-Moore had been officially struck off from the charity’s board of directors after he was banned from running a non-profit for eight years last month.
Hannah, 52, who previously tried to install herself as the £150,000 chief executive of the charity, was also barred for a decade.
It followed a row over an illegal spa built with money raised by the national hero’s sponsored walks.
The watchdog said the legal test for disqualification was met “because there has been misconduct or mismanagement.”
A judgement letter added: “The individuals are not fit to be a trustee or hold senior management functions and disqualification is in the public interest”.
The Ingram-Moore family hit back at the move, adding they “fundamentally disagree” with the decision.
The watchdog had previously scrapped with the family over the charity’s management and independence from relatives.
Hannah helped promote her father during the pandemic as Captain Tom, then 99, began walking laps of his garden in a bid to raise £1,000.
It was claimed he had been challenged by his grandson to walk 100 laps of his garden before he turned 100 years old.
Sir Tom suddenly turned into a nationwide icon with a fundraiser page reaching more than £38million.
The Army even arranged a one-off flyover to mark the veteran competing the challenge.
He was then personally knighted by the late Queen Elizabeth.
Captain Tom died aged 100 from Covid in hospital soon after a bucket list family holiday to Barbados in 2021.
The Captain Tom Foundation was asked to comment on the accounts.
