Two people believed to be British men have been found shot dead in a burned out car in Sweden.

The families of London-based travel agents Juan Cifuentes and Farooq Abdulrazak were previously reported missing and are being supported by the Foreign Office.

The bodies of Juan, 33, and Farooq, 37, were found by firefighters inside a burnt Toyota RAV4 which they had rented in an industrial estate in Malmö, Sweden, on Sunday.

The car was last seen being driven past the Öresund Bridge toll station on Sunday afternoon.

Police are investigating whether the deaths are linked to gang violence and believe the pair were shot dead before the car was set on fire.

The Foreign Office confirmed it is supporting their families as the scene is still cordoned off by police and is being treated as a crime scene.

A relative of Juan told the Mail: ‘The car that was found is the one that Juan and Farooq rented. The Swedish police have been in contact with us and are providing updates on the situation.

‘They believe the two men in the car are possibly Juan and Farooq but the bodies are yet to be identified. I have read reports that the two men found in the car had been shot.

‘That is not something that we are aware of at this time. The police have not told us that. All we know at the moment is that Juan and Farooq travelled to Denmark and then on to Sweden for a business trip.

‘They’d been due to return on Sunday before the Euro final but they didn’t come home and nobody has seen them for a few days.’

Rickard Lundqvist, press spokesperson for police region South, said no suspect has been identified in the investigation.

But he did confirm that several people are currently being questioned but could not go into specifics.

Kerstin Gossé, for the Swedish Police Authority said: ‘We are interested in talking to people who have seen the car… a black Danish-registered Toyota of model RAV4.

‘We are working hard with various measures in this investigation to bring clarity to this.’

A Swedish Police Authority spokesperson added: ‘The two people who were found dead in a burnt-out car on Sunday afternoon have not yet been identified.

‘The bodies are being examined by forensic medicine. The incident is currently being investigated as a murder.

‘Several witnesses have been interviewed and the police are interested in further observations and tips.’

Police are appealing for people who may have seen the car between 11.30am and 2pm on Sunday to come forward.

The force is also keeping an ‘open mind’ about the motive behind the attack, according to Aftonbladet.

Gossé continued: ‘We have to keep everything open. It is nothing that I can speculate on this early in the investigation.

‘So far, we are keeping tight and restrained so that the preliminary investigation can have its way.’
