Japan expresses solidarity with storm and flooding victims in Afghanistan

The Embassy of Japan in Kabul expressed solidarity with the victims of severe storms and devastating floods in recent days in Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, Paktia, and Kabul.

In a note on social media today, Wednesday, July 17, the embassy stated that Japan will always stand by the people of Afghanistan in times of hardship.

Heavy rains, destructive floods, and storms in recent days have resulted in numerous casualties and injuries across several provinces of Afghanistan.

Save the Children, in a report released this morning, stated that approximately 1,500 children have been displaced from their homes due to recent floods and storms in some provinces of Afghanistan.

The figures presented by the organization indicate that about 1.36 million people, including 858,000 children, have been affected by natural disasters in Kunar, Laghman, and Nangarhar provinces.

Takayoshi Kuromiya, the Ambassador of Japan to Kabul, remarked, “I am deeply saddened by the severe storms and devastating floods that have occurred in recent days in Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, Paktia, and Kabul.”

He added that Japan is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to stand alongside the people of Afghanistan.
