Clay Higgins qualifies to run for re-election to Congress

U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins (R) has announced that he has formally qualified for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives for Louisiana's 3rd District.

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins (R) has announced that he has formally qualified for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives for Louisiana's 3rd District.

Higgins will seek a fifth consecutive term in office.

“I am honored to serve the citizens of South Louisiana in the U.S. House of Representatives,” Higgins said, in a news release. “Our mission has always been focused around conservative core principles and driven by the concerns of working-class American families. I will continue to fight for Louisiana and, by extension, all of America."

Louisiana's 3rd District, which was altered in the re-districting process, now includes all of Terrebonne Parish and northern portions of Lafourche Parish, as well as Acadia, Cameron, Iberia, Jeff Davis, Lafayette, St. Martin, St. Mary, Vermilion and part of Calcasieu parishes.

"We are already on the ground in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes, listening and meeting with citizens," Higgins said. "Protecting our coastal communities, the maritime industry, and domestic energy production have long been priorities of my office. I look forward to earning the support of the Bayou Region and voters across the 3rd District."

Higgins said he has received endorsements from former President Donald J. Trump, Speaker Mike Johnson, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Governor Jeff Landry, the Republican Party of Louisiana and others.

Voters will choose their congressional representatives in the primary/presidential election Nov. 5 with a runoff if necessary on Dec. 7.
