2024 Emmy nominations: Netflix leads tally, FX and HBO follow
From 2021 to 2023, HBO and it streaming service Max led all networks on the Emmy nominations scorecard. But this year, the paycaster had to settle for third place with 91 nominations while Netflix, which led the list in 2018 and 2020, staging a staggering comeback and reaping a leading 107 bids.
Of these, a whopping 19 were for the final season of “The Crown,” which more than tripled its 2023 showing. In all, 19 Netflix programs earned multiple notices this year, with its other double-digit contenders being “Ripley” (13) and “Baby Reindeer” (11).
FX vaulted from seventh to second place with a total of 93 nominations. The two shows that lead the nominations — “Shōgun” (25) and “The Bear” (23) — accounted for more than half of these.
As is to be expected nowadays, the big four traditional broadcast networks were outpaced by paycasters and streamers. They amassed a combined total of 115 nominations, which is 29 more than they received in 2023. With 38 mentions, ABC remains at the top of this subset for a second consecutive year, although it tied this time with CBS, which earned just 20 bids last year.
