Mariners Moose Tracks, 7/17/24: Jurrangelo Cijntje, T-Mobile Park, and Andrés Muñoz
I think I’ve finally figured out how to spell Cijntje.
Good morning friends! I hope you enjoyed the All-Star festivities. We now must wait through two days without baseball before the second half begins on Friday. Let’s dig into the latest from around the league.
In Mariners news...
- Daniel Kramer spoke to Mariners first-rounder Jurrangelo Cijntje, who has already agreed to a deal with the club pending a physical.
- Somehow I missed this from a month ago but this clip from Bill Krueger is fascinating and sheds some light on why exactly it’s difficult to hit at T-Mobile Park.
Back on June 3, @BillKrueger44 brought up this very point about hitting at T-Mobile. https://t.co/fA6PJIjJSS https://t.co/wAoHC4Mzzk pic.twitter.com/4naJkLsahs

- Fittingly, Amanda Lane Cumming wrote a detailed history of the construction of Safeco Field/T-Mobile Park and the multitude of ways in which fans and players were deceived about what the park would be.
- This is so cool!
Andrés Muñoz’s older brothers, Miguel and Helmer, drove 27 hours from Los Mochis, Mexico, to be here at the All-Star Game. They’re hoping to see Andrés pitch late in the game for the AL tonight.

Around the league...
- Ingrid Andress — the singer who went viral for her substandard performance of the national anthem during the Home Run Derby broadcast — put forward a statement admitting she was intoxicated that night and is checking herself into rehab. We wish her the very best in her journey to recovery.
- Following a failed attempt by some members of the MLBPA to oust chief negotiator Bruce Meyer, Tony Clark says that union deliberations will take place internally moving forward.
- Players from around baseball weighed in on the A’s planned relocation to Las Vegas. Unsurprisingly, they’re not so high on it.
- Interesting...it feels like only a matter of time.
Rob Manfred said it is possible that MLB would test the automated strike zone challenge system in spring training in 2025, which could lead to potential implementation in 2026. But it is not a guarantee they will move on that schedule, and he feels the spring test is important.

- Awful Announcing ranked all of the broadcasting booths around the league.
- Not a good look for the Mariners!

- Heck yeah Sue Bird!
