Over 1,000 Afghan refugees deported from Iran and Pakistan
The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations announced the expulsion of over one thousand Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan.
According to a press release on Wednesday, July 17th, a total of 1,408 individuals were deported from these countries in a single day.
The ministry stated that those expelled returned to Afghanistan through various border points, including Torghundi, Spin Boldak, Islam Qala in Herat province, and the Silk Bridge in Nimruz province on July 15th and 16th.
Recently, Pakistan and Iran have expedited the deportation of Afghan migrants lacking legal residency documents. Malala Yousafzai, a Nobel laureate, has urged Pakistan to halt the deportation of Afghan migrants from the country.
Meanwhile, the rapid expulsion of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries poses significant challenges for Afghanistan, which is already grappling with internal displacement and humanitarian issues.
The influx of returnees adds pressure to already strained resources and raises concerns about those affected’s well-being and future prospects.
Efforts to address these challenges will require international cooperation and support to ensure the safe and dignified return and reintegration of Afghan migrants.
