Here’s how we rated the Tottenham Hotspur players following the opening forty-five minutes of action in this evening’s pre-season friendly against Hearts.

Hearts

Ange Postecoglou’s side head into the break at Tynecastle currently 1-0 ahead courtesy of Brennan Johnson’s close-range effort.

Tottenham half-time ratings vs Hearts

Brandon Austin: With Vicario on a break after Euro 2024 and Forster on his way back from injury, Austin is currently first-choice. Didn’t look comfortable with the ball at his feet from a Gray pass which he booted out for a corner. He did show remarkable reflexes to keep the score at 0-0 when he saved a header at point-blank range. 6.

Pedro Porro: The only player in the back four in his familiar role. Tracked back well to get a block on a shoot soon after his side had take the lead. Should have made it 2-0 minutes later only to show a lack of composure to fire his shot over the bar. 6.

Archie Gray: Operating like many in the back line, out of position. Looked really comfortable with the ball at his feet. He showed he is not afraid to get stuck in when his tackle actually punctured the ball. 7.

Oliver Skipp: Played a loose pass early on but settled into the centre back role. 6.

Jamie Donley: He impressed against Cambridge at left-back at the weekend and found himself again on the flank. Played a delightful ball into the box which nearly found Solomon. 6.

Yves Bissouma: Operating in the number six role and has linked the defence and attack well. 6.

James Maddison: Had an early effort on goal which he curled wide. Was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge on his ankle on the twenty-minute mark. Had the opportunity with a free-kick from a decent angle, only to hit the wall. Linked up nicely with Kulusevski to provide the assist for Johnson. 7.

Dejan Kulusevski: Played a deft pass to Son for his chance on 25 mins. His flick for Johnson’s goal was even better. 7.

Brennan Johnson: Was having a quiet half until he opened the scoring. 6.

Heung-min Son: The skipper had a clear chance on goal which the keeper tipped over, was just put off by an advancing defender at the last moment. Will be disappointed not to have brought Solomon’s pass under control. 6.

Manor Solomon: Delivered a pin-point pass into the penalty area to set up Son. 6.
