Portland experiencing hottest July on record, so far
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland is currently sweltering and sweating through the hottest July in the city’s history with two weeks left to go.
According to historical weather data, Portland is beating July’s previous average mean temperature record of 74.1 degrees, set in 1985, by 2.6 degrees. KOIN 6 Meteorologist Kelley Bayern says Portland’s current average mean temperature for July 2024 is 76.7 degrees.
“This July could go down as the hottest on record due to the persistent trend of above-normal highs,” Bayern said. “A big factor was the heat wave Portland felt earlier in the month that brought five consecutive days of record-breaking heat. Three of those days happened to hit the triple-digits.”
Temperatures are forecast to climb back into the 90s to start the weekend before settling back into the low 80s next week.
“Temps will fall back into the upper 80s today but another heat up is expected into the weekend,” Bayern said. “Temps will climb into the mid-90s by Saturday. Then a cool down arrives by early next week. Enjoy the ride.”
