'They're scared': Trump team said to have signaled it's afraid of having J.D. Vance debate

Vice President Kamala Harris has signaled her approval of three possible dates to debate former President Donald Trump's new running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH).

But the Trump campaign has not yet backed any of the debates, with senior adviser Brian Hughes putting out the statement, “We don’t know who the Democrat nominee for Vice President is going to be, so we can’t lock in a date before their convention. To do so would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, or whoever Kamala Harris picks as her running mate.” This is a reference to the current controversy of some Democrats calling on President Joe Biden to exit the race for a second term, which would most likely but not definitely result in Harris leading the top of the ticket.

Commenters on social media, however, pounced on this as a sign that the Trump campaign is actually afraid of going toe to toe with Harris, who by many metrics won the last time she was in a vice presidential debate, against Mike Pence. Others urged Democrats to cut out the infighting, and take this remark as a sign the Trump campaign is benefiting from efforts to push Biden aside.
