Charge dropped for Topeka man accused of murder

TOPEKA (KSNT) - A man who was arrested for murder in January 2023 took a plea deal dismissing his first-degree murder charge.

On June 27, Skyler J.M. Wilson pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and solicitation to commit aggravated robbery in connection to a Jan. 10 robbery.

Wilson was arrested on a first-degree murder charge after an incident on Jan. 28 when Jason Jeremy Neal of Topeka was found suffering from a gunshot wound at an apartment in the 400 block of Southwest Tyler St. Neal was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Court documents state that Neal was shot multiple times and that investigators located nine 9mm shell casings in the room where he was found. An autopsy performed on Neal on Jan. 30 in Kansas City found that Neal had several projectiles inside him that pierced vital organs, including his heart.

In exchange for pleading guilty to the charges stemming from the Jan. 10 robbery, prosecutors agreed to drop charges he faced for premeditated first-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon.

Wilson's sentencing is set for 10 a.m. Aug. 8.
