Niskayuna unveils new proposed logo design

The town of Niskayuna is taking a step toward creating a new town logo.

NISKAYUNA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The town of Niskayuna is taking a step toward creating a new town logo. The proposed design depicts a heron flying over the Mohawk River with two white pine trees.

Town leaders said the indigenous people who live there felt the heron was a good omen and embodies patience and wisdom. The logo also recognizes the town's connection to nature.

The process to design a new logo started two years ago after the town historian said the old logo did not properly depict the indigenous people who lived there. Officials want the logo to represent the town's past, present and future.

Leaders hope to hold a public hearing on the new design in August.
