David Soares launches write-in campaign for Albany County DA

Albany County District Attorney David Soares is still seeking re-election despite losing the Democratic Primary in June.

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Albany County District Attorney David Soares is still seeking re-election despite losing the Democratic Primary in June. Soares launched a write-in campaign on Wednesday.

Soares is a five-term incumbent, who lost to attorney Lee Kindlon by more than 2,000 votes. He said that he accepts the results of the primary; however, he does not believe they are an accurate representation of how most voters in the county feel.

"We have over 300,000 people in this county," he said. "Many registered voters and simply 10 percent of those individuals exercising their opinion does not speak for this county. We're going to give the people an opportunity to speak and make it be very definitive by running this race."

Albany County Democratic Party leaders spoke out against Soares's write-in campaign. The party's chairman said they stand behind their nominees and pledged to succeed in November as a unified party.

Ralph Ambrosio, who is running on the republican side, criticized Soares's tenure and is touting himself as the only law and order candidate between himself and Kindlon.
