'Gross': J.D. Vance mocked for saying 2024 is about 'preserving the American experiment'

The internet on Wednesday night scoffed at the GOP's newly minted vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance, who seemingly repeated what Democrats have been saying for years — that the 2024 election is about protecting Democracy.

Before Vance's speech weaved in stories from his book, "Hillbilly Elegy," the Ohio Republican senator called the convention a "night of hope" — then echoed Trump's infamous MAGA slogan, saying it was a celebration of what "America once was, and with God's grace, what it will soon be again."

"And it is a reminder," he continued about the sacred duty we have to preserve the American experiment, to choose a new path for our children and grandchildren."

The remark left many on the left side of the political spectrum confused. Some on X found him outright dishonest.

"JD Vance is gross and he’s a liar," wrote @JustisLadi. "They are going to ruin the American experiment, not fight for it. He’s lying to us to protect Trump, who stole government secrets and collaborates with Russia."

"What does your version of the 'American Experiment' look like?" chided @ChaldeanGroyper.

"The American experiment???" a befuddled @AEcanSk8 inquired Wednesday.

"'The American EXPERIMENT' He and Thiel definitely plan on ending American democracy as we know it," wrote @Raine461.
