Man arrested at Paphos airport after presenting fake ID

Paphos police arrested a 27-year-old for presenting a fake ID at the city’s airport attempting to depart Cyprus, it emerged on Thursday.

According to police, the man presented an ID on Wednesday night at Paphos airport. The ID was a French and was determined to be fake, after checks showed that Greek authorities reported the ID as lost or stolen.

Police added that the picture and some data on the ID had also been doctored.

During questioning, the man told police that the document did not belong to him and that he is from Iraq.

He turned over his real passport to confirm.

Police said that the man appears to have arrived in the state-controlled areas from the north.

He was arrested, police said.
