What’s on this weekend

Music, dancing and theatre is what this weekend has in store! Culture lovers and fiesta-goers in every corner of the island will have something to enjoy this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The weekend’s agenda begins with a love rock performance on Friday night by the British band Blaze of Glory, which will perform some of the very best of rock music. The five-piece band will step onto the stage of Kiklos Music Venue in Limassol and bring to life the golden days of the 70s and 80s, remembering hits by Queen, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, U2 and more in a performance called The Ultimate Rock Show.

In a completely different mood is a party at Ammos Beach bar which will set the pace for the BEONIX festival that will take place in September. The pre-Festival party on Saturday night will have a line-up of acclaimed DJs to offer a taste of what’s to come. Doors open at 10pm.

Theatre enthusiasts in Paphos, Limassol and Nicosia will have a choice of remarkable shows this weekend, one in Greek and one in Romanian. The Cyprus Theatre Organisation will take its production of the Euripidian tragedy The Phoenician Womento Ancient Curium on Friday and Saturday.

Also happening this weekend is the opening of the International Ancient Greek Drama Festival. The first production to be presented is another Euripidean tragedy – Orestes. Romania’s Tony Bulandra Theatre will present two shows this weekend, directed by Yiannis Paraskevopoulos. The first will be on Friday at the Paphos Ancient Odeon and the second on Saturday at Nicosia’s Makarios III Amphitheatre.

Bonnie Tyler was set to perform in Larnaca this Sunday but her fans will have to wait a while as she will now perform in late September. A new date has been set for the Welsh singer’s concert in Cyprus – September 30. But fear not, the island’s music and art scene is buzzing this summer so there is plenty to do until then.
