Nanaimo, B.C. (July 17, 2024) — 2006-born defenceman Julian Brown (Montclair, NJ) is the latest addition to the Nanaimo Clippers’ blue line, the team announced today.

Brown, 18, has signed with the team after playing his second full season of junior hockey for the Philadelphia Rebels of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), who selected him 9th overall in last year’s NAHL draft.

The 6’3″, 215lb rearguard dressed in 51 games for the Rebels, scoring 9 points and adding 98 penalty minutes.

In 2022-23, Brown began his junior career as a 16-year old with the Boston Jr. Bruins of the NCDC after being drafted 9th overall by the team in that league’s draft. He also dressed in 3 games with the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL, of whom he was a third round draft pick in 2022.

“With Julian we’re adding a big, strong defenceman who is also a very good skater,” said Clippers general manager and head coach Colin Birkas. “He’ll be able to play hard, tough minutes, but there is also a lot of skill in him that we will help to bring out. There are very good reasons why he was a high USHL draft pick and played games in Dubuque.”

Prior to junior, Brown played on three consecutive championship teams at the 13U, 14U, and 15U levels with the North Jersey Avalanche, and also played two years of high school hockey for Delbarton School in Morristown, NJ.

The Nanaimo Clippers’ season is fast approaching, and the annual Clippers Alumni and Friends Golf Tournament is only a month away! Register for a great afternoon of golf at tickets.nanaimoclippers.com
