Santa Clara County jails report seventh in-custody death of the year

The 24-year old inmate was booked on July 5 and found unresponsive in his cell later that day; he died at a hospital five days later.

SAN JOSE – A 24-year-old inmate at the Main Jail in San Jose died in the hospital on July 10, five days after he was found unresponsive in his cell, according to authorities.

On July 5, the man was arrested and booked on “two counts of robbery, possession of a loaded firearm, various other felonies and several outstanding warrants,” Santa Clara County sheriff’s Deputy Felicia Segura said in a news release.

The Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office determined that the man died by suicide.

“Deputies and medical staff immediately performed life-saving measures on him by administering CPR until medical personnel arrived,” Segura said. He died in the care of a hospital after several days.

The death marked the county’s seventh in-custody death of the year.
