Rohit Sharma will Captain India in Sri Lanka ODIs? Big Updates- Report

According to some reports, Rohit Sharma is all set to play in the ODI series against Sri Lanka and he will be leading the team as well. Earlier on, there were assumptions that the trio of Rohit, Virat and Jasprit Bumrah will miss the entire tour or Sri Lanka, KL Rahul being the captain for the series. However, reports now claim that even though Virat and Bumrah will enjoy holidays, Rohit Sharma will be back in action as he will be playing non-stop cricket. Team India will only play 6 ODIs before the Champions Trophy 2025 and report have stated that this was a big reason behind Rohit’s involvement. This series will also be the first assignment of Gautam Gambhir as the Team’s new head coach.

The T20 captaincy remains a topic of discussion since there is a strong competition between Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav. However, media reports believe that SKY holds an advantage as team management is worried about Hardik’s struggles with fitness.

Pandya made himself available for the series against Sri Lanka this month. Bit it has came out that Suryakumar who captained in 8 T20Is last year, is the preferred choice of new head coach Gautam Gambhir.

It is learnt that both Gambhir and Agarkar spoke to Pandya had a chat with Pandya about this change of plan earlier this evening and it was explained to him that a long-term option was finalised to ensure stability.

The T20 captaincy role came out vacant since Rohit Sharma bid his farewell to his international career in shortest format after India’s World Cup victory last month.

Pandya, who was one of the heroes of that victory, is taking a break from the three-match ODI series due to ‘personal reasons’. “Hardik Pandya was India’s T20 vice-captain under Rohit Sharma. He is completely fir and available for the 3-match T20I series and was supposed to lead the side but there is a very strong belief that SKY would be the potential leader not only for the Sri Lanka series but till the 2026 World Cup,” a BCCI source said on condition of being anonymous.
