There has been a lot of talks regarding the appointment of Indian cricket team’s next T20I skipper after Rohit Sharma decided to retire from the format following the T20 World Cup triumph. With the expectation being that vice-captain Hardik Pandya will succeed Rohit Sharma, but Suryakumar Yadav has emerged as a strong contender in the past few days. Media reports claim that Hardik’s fitness issue have shown a hindrance in the eyes of team management and Suryakumar is to be picked as the skipper for the upcoming T20I against Sri Lanka. However, following the reports, ‘we Want captain Hardik’ started trending on X (former twitter). Hardik was a top performer in the T20 World Cup and has also won IPL as a captain.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar is the highest placed Indian at 2nd spot. Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is at the 6th position whereas Ruturaj Gaikwad has dropped a place to 8th position. This list was updated following India’s recent 4-1 series win over Zimbabwe.
Shubhman Gill, who guided India against Zimbabwe, along with being the leading run-scorer of the series (170 runs in 5 innings), moved up 36 places to 37th spot.
Axar Patel, who was rested for the Zimbabwe series, has dropped down four places to 13th spot. Currently, no Indian features in the top 10 of the T20I bowler rankings.
Fast bowlers Mukesh Kumar and Washington Sundar have also made progress.
Mukesh has gained 36 places to end up in 46th spot. Whereas, Washington has climbed 21 spots to finish up in 73rd rank.
