Scarlett Johansson Reflects on Suing Disney Over 'Black Widow' Release, Reveals if She Holds Grudge

Scarlett Johansson opened up about suing Disney in 2021 and if she’s holding a grudge against the company years later.

If you forgot, the 39-year-old actress sued the major media company over breach of contract, saying that her movie Black Widow was supposed to be released in theaters only. It was instead released on streaming simultaneously amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her salary was tied to the movie’s performance in theaters, and estimates at the time suggested that she could have lost as much as $50 million due to the release plan.

She and Disney settled the lawsuit a few months later.

Speaking to The New York Times, Scarlett said that the experience was “a blur.” However, there’s no bad blood.

“I don’t hold a grudge,” she said. “I think it was just poor judgment and poor leadership at that time. It just felt very unprofessional to me, the entire ordeal. And honestly, I was incredibly disappointed, especially because I was holding out hope until, finally, my team was like, ‘You have to act.’”

During another part of the conversation, Scarlett was asked if she “sill love[d] Disney.” Her response: “I loved it, and I still do.”

In fact, the actress is working on another project with Disney.
