Who is Emio? Nintendo has finally given us the answer

A WEEK after Nintendo released a creepy teaser trailer for an upcoming mature game, the company has finally answered its own question.

The trailer titled Who is Emio? featured a short video of a man wearing a paper bag with a demonic grin drawn on it.

Fans later spotted the Australian age rating for Emio, confirming the game will have strong themes of violence and suicide.

People were expecting Emio to be a horror game from the likes of Bloober Team, known for Layers of Fear, or Koei Tecmo, known for the Fatal Frame series.

However, Nintendo has now confirmed the game is being developed in-house and produced by Yoshio Sakamoto, best known for the Metroid series.

Emio – The Smiling Man is a new entry in one of Sakamoto’s other popular series.

The full title is Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club as the next entry in the series.

Famicom Detective Club’s first game was released in 1988, but a double pack of the first two games was re-released in 2021.

Emio will be the third game in the series, where you will play as a detective investigating a mysterious serial killer.

Murders following the same pattern as an 18-year-old cold case start to appear, and you have to figure out if it’s the same killer, a copycat, or something else.

Emio – The Smiling Man will also release sooner than people expected, as it comes out next month.

There will be both digital and physical editions of the game launching exclusively for Nintendo Switch on August 29, 2024.

People can now watch a short video with Sakamoto on YouTube, explaining his ideas for the new entry.
