But now eagle-eyed EastEnders fans are convinced another legend will make a comeback to Walford.
Taking to social media, they called for David’s ex Carol Jackson to also return, having last appeared 10 years ago.
Posting about the character, played by Lindsey Coulson, one fan said: “Okay now SURELY you have to bring Carol back.”
A second wrote: “Please bring back Lindsay Coulson.”
“With the legendary Carol Jackson beside him [Michael], I hope,” posted a third.
While a fourth commented: “With all these returns we need Carol Jackson rocking up on her motorbike, helmet off, a shake of the hair, smile and ‘Hello David…’ Thats a Thursday duff duff right there.”
Meanwhile, Shaun Williamson recently told The Sun how he’s up for returning to Albert Square.
The 58-year-old’s character Barry Evans was brutally murdered by Janine Butcher 20 years ago.
Janine, who is portrayed by Charley Brooks, sent Barry plunging to his death when she pushed him off a cliff.
