And Selena Gomez also made history Wednesday earning her third nomination as am executive producer of Hulu’s comedy “Only Murders in the Building” making her the most nominated Latina producer of a comedy series. And she was also nominated this year for lead actress in a comedy series.
Carol Burnett earned her 23rd Emmy nomination on July 27th for supporting actress in a comedy series for Apple TV+’s “Palme Royale” making Emmy history as the eldest Emmy nominated comedy actress. The beloved 91-year-old won her first Emmy in 1962 for performance in a variety or musical program or series for CBS’ “The Garry Moore Show.”
David Attenborough, who is 98, earned his 11th Emmy nomination for outstanding narrator for BBC America’s “Human” episode of “Planet Earth III.” He previously won in this category in 2020 for BBC America’s “Seven Worlds, One Planet”; in 2019 for BBC America’s “One Planet”; and for 2018’ s BBC America’s “Blue Planet II.”’ He earned his first Emmy nomination in 1985 for individual achievement informational programming-writing-for PBS’ “The Living Planet: Portrait of Earth.”
This year’s best supporting Oscar winners — Robert Downey Jr. (“Oppenheimer”) and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Holdovers”) — may be entering the Emmy winner’s circle. Downey is in contention for outstanding supporting actor in a limited or anthology series for HBO’s “The Sympathizer,” while Randolph is up outstanding guest actress on a comedy series for FX’s “Only Murders in the Building.”
They’re hoping to replicate the double play made by Helen Mirren back in 2007 when she won best actress at the Oscars for “The Queen”and then the Emmy for lead actress in a miniseries or movie for PBS’ “Prime Suspect 7: The Final Year.”
But even that feat is nothing compared to the triple crown won by Bob Fosse in 1973: he took home the best director Oscar for “Cabaret,” three Emmys for the NBC special “Liza with a Z” including best director and the Tony for best director of a musical for “Pippin.”
