Two buses crash within minutes of each other in New Zealand, injuring 15 people

'All the windows were completely smashed out on both sides and the windscreen, so obviously there’s been a lot of glass injuries.'

Two buses carrying groups of tourists veered off the same part of the road after dangerous weather struck New Zealand’s South Island.

The buses were travelling in the same direction on the highway when they overturned at the same time – and only 100 metres apart from one another, according to New Zealand Police.

Black ice and heavy fog had been reported in the area, though the official cause of the crashes haven’t been confirmed yet.

The Chinese consulate in New Zealand told AP the buses had been carrying groups of Chinese tourists.

15 passengers were rushed to hospital, with two taken by helicopter in serious condition.

One man said he pulled passengers from the roof of the bus.

Grace Duggin, an Australian tourist who was travelling near the buses, told AP: ‘It was mostly the little kids who had severe head lacerations.

‘All the windows were completely smashed out on both sides and the windscreen, so obviously there’s been a lot of glass injuries.’
